5 Strategies To Drive Business NOW: How to jump-start a new business, breathe life into an existing one, build your bottom line

This past week I was speaking at a conference in Dallas, Texas. More than 1000 business owners at all levels of growth in their franchises. Some were just getting started; others had two or three years under their belt, while others had been going at it for over a decade. 

Despite the fact that they were all at varying points of experience, needs, and growth, they shared the same challenges, fears, and struggles. They all had the same questions. Questions like: How do you drive business now? How do you get more customers in the door? How do you drive more business and build your bottom line?

Great questions, right? And ones that are on the mind of almost every business owner facing the challenges of today’s marketplace. Now more than ever, we deal with rising interest rates, threats of inflation, and a possible decrease in consumer demand.

Well, despite those challenges, you may be surprised to learn that this is one of the best times to grow your business. In fact, a challenging marketplace actually has as much if not more opportunity in it than a healthy and stable one. 

Why? Because your customers really need you in challenging economic times. They are dealing with big problems, obstacles, and issues they need to solve. And they need a valuable resource to help them navigate it all and find solutions. And that valuable resource is you.

Here are five strategies you need to implement NOW to drive business and ensure that customers choose you over the competition. 

1. Make Some Noise – if you want to drive more customers into your business, you need to ensure that customers have heard of you or about you. Customers can’t do business with you if they don’t know who you are and what you do.

Now getting customers’ attention is harder than ever before. They are not only inundated with information, but getting a barrage of messages all day long, and they are overwhelmed with information. 

If you are going to get their attention, you will need to make some noise. Make some noise by knowing where your customers are looking for information, and then ask yourself what you are doing to get your business on their radar. 

2. Ask For Help – one of the quickest ways to drive business, and get customers to your door, is to ask your current customers to send you some business. Yes, you need to ask for help. Look, your customers like you; they love your product and are already sold on who you are and what you do. If you want to find more customers like that, no one better to ask than those customers.

You may just be surprised how much they want to help you; all you have to do is ask.

3. Make The Calls – driving business is merely a function of activity. The more activity you create, the more business you will get. While you can never control results, you can control behavior. If you want customers to come to you, start by going to them. 

Create a prospect list, set aside the time, and make some calls. Do it every single day, day-in and day-out. Now, while it will take a little time to get traction, it will have a compounding effect.

4. Go Deep  – with your existing customers. Driving business is not always about finding new opportunities; in fact, it is easier to sell more products and services to current customers than to try and attract new ones. 

So make a list; even if you are new in business, you can start with just a few customers. In fact, you may just be surprised; the better you take care of your existing customers, the longer they will stay, the more referrals they will send your way, and the more they will do to help you grow your business.

5. Listen For The Clues – one of the best paths to finding new customers is to listen to the complaints or issues your current customers are having. Finding new business, especially in a tough marketplace, is about offering something different than your competitors. 

The best way to know how to do that is to listen to what your customers want and need directly from them. You can use that to not only take care of your existing customers, but it will be the best messaging to attract new customers. 

Now, you got this!  Finding new business is the biggest challenge business owners face today, and while it has its obstacles, you can focus on these strategies. Put these into action, and watch as you turn all of this uncertainty into your greatest competitive advantage.
