So here are three innovative strategies you need to attract top talent, right now. You can actually win the war on talent and turn the great resignation into your greatest opportunity.
Number one, and challenge everybody in your company to find the diamond in the rough. In all the organizations that I’ve worked within the country around the world, one of the biggest challenges I think leaders have is not realizing they have talent in their ranks. They have people in there that could if they were developed or strong future leaders.
So challenge everybody in your organization. Actually give a reward to find a diamond in the rough.
Next, open your mind to new ideas and new strategies to attract people to your company. One of my favorites is I always hire waiters and waitresses. The reason I do is that number one, they love to multitask. Number two, they know how to be nice to a customer, even when that customer isn’t being nice to them. And they realize there are peaks where you’ve got to work harder and you got to work with more effort because when the rush comes in, you’ve got to do that. They’re not afraid of a little hard work.
And the best reason is that I can teach them to do the job. I can’t teach all that attitude stuff that I really need in my business. And last but not least, turn your HR team into a sales team. They need to realize that this is a lifestyle, not a task. You don’t look for people with a headhunter when you need people, you need to be looking for talent constantly, whether you need it or not. And just like your best customers are working someplace else, the best people are working someplace else.
So the HR team or your recruiting team needs to become a Salesforce. You follow those strategies and you are not only going to gain the best and the brightest beating a path to your door, but you’re going to turn all of this uncertainty into a major competitive advantage.
