Thrive – Let’s Talk about Sales and Mindset


Hey, this is Meridith Elliot Powell. And this week when we talk about sales, I want to talk a little bit about mindset. Every time I say the word “sales”, it’s like I feel the energy sucked right out of the room. I mean, still, even in 2021 a lot of people don’t like the word. And I get it. It can conjure up negative images, Right? Images like, the up sell, the cross sale. I mean, things that just feel like a sleazy salesperson. Well, a lot of times we don’t like sales because we haven’t been taught how to sell and how to sell correctly. The truth is, if you’re worried about upselling and cross selling and the art of the close, you’re focused on yourself. And that is not what sales is about. In fact, sales isn’t about you at all. It’s about the customer. If you want to sell and sell more effectively and sell more effectively enjoy the process. Don’t focus on closing the deal. Focus on the conversation and focus on helping people and focusing on helping people, that is something that comes naturally to do to you. You do it every day. You convince your kids to eat their vegetables. You convince a spouse to eat a little healthier or to go to the doctor. We sell every day of our lives. So if you take the edge off the selling process, if you stop focusing on yourself and focus on the customer, you’re going to turn all of this uncertainty into your competitive advantage.
